Celebrating their 20th concert season, the Champlain Philharmonic will play some of the first music the CPO ever performed. Rounded out with some American shorts that show the breadth of styles in American classical music -the jazz of Morton Gould’s Pavanne, the first woman to have a symphony performed by a professional orchestra, the weirdness of Ives, the beauty of Copland, and a world premiere by Travis Ramsey (who is based out of the upper valley of Vermont). They will also have Milad Yousufi (a refugee to the US) on the program as well!
The program includes:
Mozart – Overture to the Magic Flute (first piece the CPO played 20 years ago!)
Shaker Melody Variations, from Appalachian Spring by Copeland
The Unanswered Question, Charles Ives
Gaelic Symphony, Movement 1 – Amy Beach (first symphony by an American Woman)
Hush by Travis Ramsey (world premiere, VT composer)
Pavanne, by Morton Gould
Freedom, by Milad Yusufi
Mendelssohn Reformation Symphony, Mov 4 (what closed the first CPO concert 20 years ago!)
