We round out this season’s House of Jazz series, presented by Town Hall Theater and Jazz Middlebury, with a performance you don’t want to miss!

Mathis Picard (Jazz at Lincoln Center) is delighted to return to Middlebury to perform at the Town Hall for an evening of solo piano. Expect to hear original compositions from Picard and interpretations of solo piano classics, ranging from the pen of Duke Ellington to Thelonious Monk & J.S. Bach to Chopin & Ravel. Mathis will also be doing a world premiere of selections from his new book of preludes & fugues.

Mathis Picard is a pianist, composer and producer in the international music scene. Based in New York City and from France & Madagascar, Mathis honors his multi-cultural background by merging musical influences and elevating sonic synchronicity. Named a “rising star” by The Scotsmen paper, Mathis is an ASCAP Next Generation of Songwriters Recipient, a member of the Montreux Jazz Foundation, and a Juilliard Alumni under the mentorship of Kenny Barron.

His band The Sound Orchestra has performed all over The United States. Their debut genre-bending EP World Unity came out in 2020 on Outside In which put him on the map as “a fascinating name to follow in any context” (All About Jazz). Mathis has shared the stage with artists such as Christian McBride, Braxton Cook, Ron Carter, Lillias White, Lee Ritenour, Wynton Marsalis, Veronica Swift, Etienne Charles & more. Rooted in the tradition of live acoustic performance and deemed as “one to watch” by Jazzwise magazine, Mathis also shines as a solo pianist, playing solo sets for NY Fashion Week, Little Island, Umbria Jazz Festival, and is featured on several records.

Mathis presented his first solo piano album titled Live at the Museum in 2022. Recorded with a live audience at the National Jazz Museum of Harlem in New York City, Live at the Museum is a sonic journey through which Mathis explores the museum of his own life in music, honoring and spotlighting his roots in jazz, classical and electronic music. In 2023 Mathis released his latest album Heat Of The Moment, which The Times has reviewed for 5-stars.

Come for an intimate evening with table seating for $40, or regular seating for $30. Student ticket also available for $15.  Cash bar open throughout the show (Table seat grants the patron to a meet & greet with Mathis after the show and comes with a free drink ticket for those 21 and over.  Please have your ID ready)
