Located in the heart of downtown Middlebury, Town Hall Theater is a lovingly restored and unique venue that provides a beautiful, memorable location for a variety of events. We host celebrations, conferences and business meetings, dinners and cocktail parties, memorials, and more. THT features a flexible 232-seat theater, an art gallery, studio space, and modern, light-filled event spaces just next door.
Town Hall Theater is easily accessible by car or foot. Downtown Middlebury features numerous restaurants, inns, and attractions to complement visitors for your events.
HISTORIC AND MODERN SPACES
Since 1886, Town Hall Theater has always been a central gathering place for Addison County. Our historic hall was completely restored in 2008, with a modern new wing completed in January 2025. All spaces are served by a centrally located catering kitchen. We have a full liquor license and multiple bar options.
NEW WING RENTALS:
Anderson Rehearsal Studio: 1,430 sq ft, 150 reception and 80-100 for dinner or performance
This stunning space features floor to ceiling windows, stunning views of the Otter Creek, and a balcony; it’s a gracious space for all kinds of events, small performances, and more. The Anderson Studio can be rented with or without its adjacent bar and lounge, Jean’s Place.
Jean’s Place: Anderson Studio Level Lounge + Bar: 862 sq ft, 70-90 for reception
Jean’s Place is a light-filled lounge with a handsome bar, high-top tables, comfortable seating, and space to mingle. Whether paired with the Anderson Studio, or rented for a standalone rent, Jean’s Place has a luxurious yet laid back feel.
Maloney Plaza with Outdoor Stage, Optional Food Trucks/Bar: 5408 sq ft, host 500+ people
Interested in hosting an outdoor gathering, perhaps even with live music on the Tilly Stage and food trucks? This is your space. Rain locations at THT can be secured alongside this rental, if desired.
Seligmann Center for Learning & Engagement: 50-100 depending on layout for receptions, meetings, classes
Classroom: 1,107 sq ft with a convenient partition wall that can divide the classroom into two classrooms if breakout spaces are needed.
The Grigg Lounge: 942 sq ft, 70-90 for mixer
This first floor has a spacious, light-filled lounge with coffee bar, and is adjacent to a spacious classroom that can be divided in half with a partition will. The river-facing classroom has a balcony perched over Otter Creek.
Scene Shop & Technical Education Space: 1,607 sq ft
This fully equipped building space (with river views) can be combined with performance rentals or used for a technical education class.
HISTORIC HALL RENTALS:
Main Hall: 1,656 sq ft (40.8' X 40.6'), 232 theater seats, or 156 reception and 120 for dinner
Stage: 823 sq ft (33.2' X 24.8'), 102 for reception, 68 for dinner
The historic Town Hall Theater features a full stage, theatrical lighting, optional movie-theater-size screen, and state-of-the-art sound system. The seating risers are retractable, making many types of events and floor plans possible.
Jackson Gallery: 885 sq ft (43.6' X 20.3') 50-70 reception
The Jackson Gallery features professional art exhibits as a lovely backdrop for a cocktail party or seated event. Historic beams and brick accents add to the room’s character.
Byers Studio: 885 sq ft (35.2 x 25.2) 30-50 for meeting, class, or small performance
This small studio hosts small meetings, classes, and simple performances (such as a play reading).
